Mayank Yadav's Injury Forces Him Out of IPL
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], May 15: Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) fast bowler Mayank Yadav will not participate in the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) due to an injury.
The IPL's official website confirmed this news, stating that the 22-year-old has been sidelined with a back injury. In his place, New Zealand's Will O'Rourke has been signed as a replacement.
According to the announcement, "Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have roped in New Zealand pacer, William O'Rourke, as an injury replacement for Mayank Yadav." The statement further clarified that Yadav's back injury has ruled him out for the rest of the season.
O'Rourke will join the team at a reserve price of Rs 3 crore.
Mayank Yadav made his IPL return after recovering from an injury sustained during his international debut series against Bangladesh last October. He played two matches, claiming two wickets, with his best performance being 2/40 against the Mumbai Indians (MI). However, he also had a challenging outing against PBKS, conceding 60 runs without taking a wicket in four overs.
Yadav missed the entire domestic season due to his back injury, which he rehabilitated at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
His 2024 season has been marred by injuries. After impressing with two 'Player of the Match' awards in his first three IPL games, where he showcased his remarkable pace exceeding 150 mph, he faced an abdominal issue that kept him out of the tournament. Following recovery at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), he unfortunately sustained another injury while bowling.
In his debut IPL season, Yadav had taken seven wickets across four matches.
Will O'Rourke has played five T20 internationals for New Zealand, securing five wickets at an average of 28.60. In total, he has taken 37 wickets in 38 T20 matches, averaging 26.05.
